Bride and Prejudice- August 28, 2008 @ 10:00am
After watching and reviewing the Bollywood hit musical, Bride and Prejudice, I have come to the conclusion that although entertaining, Bollywood seems to create "over the top" cinema classics. The creation of Bride and Prejudice was a Mumbai version of the Jane Austin masterpiece Pride and Prejudice. In general, I found the film to be light-hearted and fun, combining some remedial singing and dancing and a typical love story with predictable plot lines. As discussed in class, this film is hybrid. It combines western and non-western tactics to create a simple, yet fun movie. This was a great film to use for the introduction of Indian literature because it gave me an understanding of what I will encounter in the future. Although "cheesy" at times and odd acting choices, I would recommend this to fellow students and teachers searching for a virtual learning tool of Mumbai and / or Non-Western literature.
